Werner von Siemens, a manufacturer of telegraphic instruments, became a pioneer in the development of hearing aids when he developed an amplified telephone receiver in 1877. His innovations continued to drive the Siemens company, which produced its first BTE (behind-the-ear) hearing aid in 1959, and then its first ITE (in-the-ear) hearing aid in 1966.
Siemens became Sivantos in 2015, which used the company’s technology to produce Signia hearing aids alongside the manufacture of its own Siemens-brand hearing aids. After the merger of Sivantos Group with Widex to create WS Audiology in 2019, Siemens became a part of the world’s largest hearing aid manufacturing group.

In objective testing of Binax technology at the University of Northern Colorado and the Hearing Centre of the University of Oldenburg, those with Binax hearing aids demonstrated an advantage over those with normal hearing in a noisy environment.
