Bright, white smiles can bring a boost to your confidence and self-esteem – who doesn’t like a nice smile?
Our teeth do a lot for us, but regular eating, drinking, and smoking can lead to stains. If your teeth aren’t as white as you’d like them to be, there are several ways to whiten them further, but these methods are designed to reduce stains, not stop them from happening entirely.
With the help of a strong dental routine, your chosen teeth whitening method will last longer, ensuring your winning smile stays bright. But which teeth whitening type lasts the longest?
Whitening Toothpaste & Mouthwash
Ensure good dental hygiene and gradually whiten your teeth by incorporating whitening products into your dental routine. Two birds with one stone!
However, while these methods are the most accessible, they also take the longest. Whitening toothpaste alone can take anywhere from two to six weeks to show results, which only last for a few months. Whitening mouthwash isn’t as long-lasting, either.
Whitening toothpaste can also thin your tooth enamel, so make sure to alternate whitening toothpaste with enamel-strengthening toothpaste to keep your teeth healthy.
Whitening Strips
One of the most effective whitening forms you can get at home, whitening strips can provide quick results that last up to six months. High-quality whitening strips remove both major and minor stains on your teeth by making them whiter.
However, when used too frequently or without proper application, these can be uncomfortable and harmful to your teeth. It’s important to use these sparingly, and to use them correctly, to make sure your teeth don’t suffer.
Whitening Pens
Whitening pens contain whitening gel and are transportable and used for spot-stain removal, like stain removal pens for clothes. The gel is painted or squeezed onto your teeth, and washes away easily, so you can’t eat or drink for an hour after application.
These take from two days to a week to show results, which they don’t last a long time. Whitening pens’ minimal effect on your teeth may not last a long time, but these are one of the less abrasive methods of teeth whitening.
At-Home Whitening Trays
Gel trays take a week to show results, which depend on the strength of the peroxide and how long you wear them for. However, these can provide long-lasting results for up to a year or longer, when combined with proper oral hygiene and dentist supervision.
Depending on the level of staining on your teeth, you may need to keep the tray on your teeth for several hours or overnight for a week or so. Your dentist can provide stronger whitener than most over-the-counter options.
Dentist-Provided Teeth Whitening
Professional teeth whitening treatments are the safest and most effective ways to whiten your teeth – with just one visit, your teeth can lighten by several shades, and the effects last from six months to two years, or even longer.
Keep your teeth happy, healthy, and bright with the help of professional in-office teeth whitening. We can also provide whitening gel trays for at-home teeth whitening, should you prefer.
