Starting June 27, applications for the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) will open, allowing children under 18 and adults up to 64 years old to apply for aid, as long as they have a valid Disability Tax Credit.
The CDCP can help ease some financial barriers for Canadian residents who are seeking out dental healthcare.
How Do I Qualify and Apply for the CDCP?
To qualify for the CDCP, you must not have dental insurance, be a Canadian resident, have an adjusted family net income that’s less than $90,000, and have filed a tax return for the previous year. If you have dental coverage through provincial, territorial, or federal government programs, you can still qualify if you hit all the other criteria.
Applications open in phases, with different times for different groups of people to apply. Click here to find out when you can apply.
To apply, you’ll need to provide some information, including your full name, birthdate, home and mailing address, the dental coverage you have through government programs (if applicable), your social insurance number, and your Notice of Assessment for the previous year’s tax return filing.
When Can I Visit an Oral Health Provider?
Once you’re enrolled in the CDCP, the date on which you can see an oral health provider will be included in your welcome package. Appointments can only be scheduled on or after your coverage start date and depend on when your application is received/completed.
Several services are included in the CDCP, from general cleanings to oral surgeries and extractions. Some services will require preauthorization, which will become available in November 2024.
